1708 Gallery is pleased to announce a new online publication, tentatively titled “The Warhol Project”, made possible by a grant from The Andy Warhol Foundation.
In an effort to expand the opportunities for education and dialogue about contemporary art, the online journal will feature essays, interviews, and other writings, using 1708′s exhibitions as a starting point. A range of writers from graduate students to professionals will be included.
Our first feature was written by Robin Ashworth, a doctoral student in the Media, Art, and Text program at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her article, written in response to Matthew Friday’s Liberty of Empire exhibition, advances Friday’s call to engaged, thoughtful citizenship.
Our publication is still in its beginning stages. We will launch the full version in spring 2011- so stay tuned for further details! If you are interested in writing an article for us in the future, please send a statement of interest to info@1708gallery.org.
Once again, 1708 Gallery thanks the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts for their continued support. Our new online publication is an extension of a print-based project funded by a previous Andy Warhol Grant. By moving our dialogue to the electronic sphere, we hope to create a space that will be highly accessible and free of charge to viewers, as well as easily continued into the future.
