1708 Gallery is pleased to welcome Matt Shelton as our new Gallery Coordinator!
Matt Shelton began working for 1708 after earning an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012. From September 2011 to March 2012, Matt worked as an instructor for 1708′s Arts for All outreach program, teaching a mural painting course for clients of Richmond’s Offender Aid and Restoration. Matt moved to Richmond from New Orleans, where he was Director of the Art Program at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in New Orleans and volunteered for Creative Time’s site-specific producion of Waiting for Godot in New Orleans. A 2011-2012 VMFA Graduate Fellowship recipient, Matt will participate in artist Lisi Raskin’s Motorpark project at the Maine College of Art ICA in Portland this summer, and looks forward to teaching a course on art and social justice at VCU in the fall.
