1708 Gallery’s next exhibition will open during the First Friday Art Walk on June 3. Meet Greg Stewart and view his show, Engine of Bones Man the Handyman, during our open reception from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., featuring complementary appetizers and a cash bar. An artist’s talk will take place on the following first Friday, July 1st, at 7 p.m.
Engine of Bones Man the Handyman is inspired by the role of humans in a partially imaginary world dominated by migration and survival. Stewart’s portable structures—small fruit trees emerging from the bodies of deer-like forms—are part migrating herd, part sustenance-providing orchard and suggest mutation and movement as a form of adaptability. Also on display will be tools and accessories created from the “hides” of these animals, as well as digital prints documenting them in an urban environment.
