Andrew Kozlowski: AFTER PARTY

April 4 – May 31, 2014

1708 Gallery is pleased to present AFTER PARTY, featuring an installation by Andrew Kozlowski. Join us for the opening reception on Friday, April 4 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., with an artist talk at 5:30 p.m.

Andrew Kozlowski's drawings, prints, and installations present a deserted landscape populated with extinct plants, empty beer cans, remnants of environmental ruin, and art supplies. Collapsing hierarchies between intellectual, social and artistic concerns, Kozlowski offers an uncomfortably believable near-future--right after the party got shut down.

1708 Gallery invites you to a workshop to help close out Andrew Kozlowski's AFTER PARTY exhibition. On Saturday, May 31st, from 1pm until 4 pm, the artist will be on hand to de-install AFTER PARTY and will be demonstrating how to make recycled paper using his wall installations as raw material. Participants can bid farewell to the exhibition and make a sheet of paper to take with them. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Some of the paper made during this event will be donated to 1708 Gallery for our annual Monster Drawing Rally and to the artists at Studio Two Three to thank them for their help with the installation of AFTER PARTY. The remaining paper will be pulped and formed into new sheets for new work by the artist.

Andrew Kozlowski received his MFA in Painting and Printmaking from VCU in 2007 and his BFA in printmaking from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in 2003. His work has been included in numerous group exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad, with solo exhibitions at the Philadelphia Print Center in Philadelphia PA, Mary Baldwin College, Staunton VA and Studio 23 in Richmond VA.  In 2009 he completed a residency at the Frans Masereel Center in Belgium and was awarded 2011-2012 Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship for his work in printmaking.  He is currently an assistant professor at Auburn University.
