MDR in the summertime was a success! A shout out to the generosity of the Richmond arts community whose invaluable support allows 1708 Gallery to continue presenting the work of contemporary artists!

Monster Drawing Rally is a live art making event featuring over 80 local artists. MDR consists of 4 one-hour shifts with 20+ artists creating new works alongside one another. As soon as artists complete their drawings, they are placed for viewing throughout the gallery. In addition to the opportunity to see artists’ creative practice unfold, visitors may purchase completed works of art. All works are set at $100 each. Artists receive 50% commission and proceeds directly support 1708’s exhibitions and programs.

Originally conceived by Southern Exposure in San Francisco, Monster Drawing Rally is a live art event that features over 80 artists. Part performance, part art bazaar, part party, Monster Drawing Rally offers our community the rare opportunity to watch their favorite local artists at work, AND it raises general operating support for 1708.
