ONE/OFF Printmaters: Recent Works

January 15 - May 1, 2016

1708 Gallery is pleased to present ONE/OFF Printmakers: Recent Works, a group satellite exhibition at Linden Row Inn featuring works by the ONE/OFF Printmakers in memory of former member and influential Richmond artist, Janet DeCover.

Represented locally by Reynolds Gallery, Janet DeCover received her BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition to an active exhibition record that covered the mid-Atlantic, DeCover was a co-founder, with partner Rudi Winerbrenner, of Main Art Supply and Framing.

ONE/OFF Printmakers is a group of Virginia-based artists who share an interest in innovative approaches to printmaking. The group was formed in 1983 at the Richmond Printmaking Workshop on Cary Street. Even though the facilities closed the group continued to meet and discuss techniques and exhibitions.

In the 1980s contemporary printmaking was being propelled in new directions by an enthusiasm for testing conventions of technique and format. Wishing to emphasize a shared interest in these innovative approaches, the founding members chose their namesake from the term “one off”, designating a unique printed impression.

During the past 33 years, the group has expanded to over twenty members and has had over sixty exhibitions in venues ranging from Virginia to England, Scotland, Italy, Canada, and Peru. ONE/OFF Printmakershave also published eight print portfolios which are now in the following collections: The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, VCU Special Collections and Archives, MCV, University of Richmond Harnett Print Study Center, and Owens & Minor Inc.

The prints in ONE/OFF Printmakers: Recent Work include monotypes, relief prints, lithographs, etchings, screenprints and other combinations of print media.

A reception for ONE/OFF Printmakers: Recent Works will be held on Friday, February 5th from 5 - 9 p.m.
