Anne Savedge: A Photographic Survey with VSPA Friends

May 3 – September 1, 2013

Anne Savedge: A Photographic Survey with VSPA Friends includes work by Anne Savedge, Barbara Ames, Etta Edwards, Marsha Polier Grossman, Alice McCabe, and Willie Anne Wright. The exhibit runs from May 3 – September 1, 2013. There will be an opening on May 3 from 6-9 pm.

Coordinated by artist and 1708 Gallery Board Member Amie Oliver, Anne Savedge: A Photographic Survey with VSPA Friends highlights the photography of Anne Savedge and several of her peers from the Virginia Society for the Photographic Arts. Playfully referring to their self-organized group as the “VVs” (for “VSPA Virgins”), this small group of women photographers draw from the past and future of photography, from Willie Anne Wright’s combination of lensless techniques to Savedge’s embrace of emergent forms of digital collage.

Anne Savedge is an Emeritus Board Member of 1708 Gallery. An active board member for over 25 years, she has contributed to 1708 as an artist, volunteer, documentarian, curator and advocate for photography and new media. As 1708 moves toward its 35th Anniversary, it is an honor to present this photographic survey of Savedge’s work, accompanied by works from the community of award-winning photographers whose vision pushed boundaries and anticipated what many take for granted today.
